I'm Courtney...
My work isn't always perfect... I mostly stick with sculpture, and with sculpting, it seems more meaningful to me
if it's unplanned, raw and imperfect. Nothing is ever certain, and everything that you think of as perfect may turn
out to be something completely different than expected. In the end, if I'm not happy with a piece, I simply destroy it
and start over. So I suppose that's my method of perfectionism.
painting: I began painting when I was very young...finger painting especially. I remember
I was probably seven and I painted birds with my Grandma, who's also an artist. I still have a few of those paintings.
I've always wanted to paint walls. I love large paintings. I've always drawn...though at times I feel
like I have absolutely nothing new to draw. Occasionally, I'll wake up in the middle of the night with an idea that
I end up staying up and painting or drawing for hours. My newest project is a charcoal sketch on the ceiling of my bedroom
of the butterflies I'm getting a tattoo of.
Ceramics/Sculpture: I've been working with clay since my freshman year at East. I started woerking
on pottery wheels and ended up messing around with sculpting and figured out that was what worked best for me. Currently,
I'm setting up a studio in my basement. On my last piece, I spent twelve hours working before my hands could'nt work
anymore.
Photography: I have no instruction in photography. Everything I've taken has been something that
I have found interesting or beautiful. People think it's creepy, but I love going to old graveyards, places people wouldn't
normally go to...and I love portraits. I prefer black and white as to color.
Yeah...I'm on myspace.
Usually my deviantart profile is more current than this since I'm not too good at making this site work right...
